Office  :  Gallery  :  Kent

When Kent received a promotion last year at Nordstrom, his responsibilities grew and so did the clutter that came with the added pull from management and meetings. Work papers and “stuff” have a way of creeping up on us, especially in a smaller space. A returning client, Kent needed a basic OfficeShui™ Refresh.

He requested that we do the work on-site in one meeting using what he already had in his space. He also felt that while we re-worked his cubicle he could deal with the paper flow issues himself.

In just three-and-a-half hours Kent had a new, clean, and purposeful office:

  • We took everything out of the space, work and personal items.
  • Kent sorted and organized work projects while we gave his office new focus and meaning.
  • To slow the energy into his open cubicle we placed a large plant with a black recycled tire pot in the northeast corner.
  • Wanting a sense of strength and pride in his ability as a manager, we placed an existing piece of art, a Thunderbird print in Kent’s career area.
  • He wanted to bring in more money for the work he was doing, so we used a traditional “cure” and placed an existing bagua mirror in his wealth area.
  • Kent is passionate about his marriage and family life and it gives him a deep sense of purpose, so we placed family photos in red frames in his fame/rank area.
  • He said that his daughter makes him laugh and lightens his mental load, so we put an existing large white framed photo of her with some lucky bamboo and a recycled tin art airplane in his creative/children area.
  • Kent cleaned up his computer cords and file drawers making room for the useful items that needed to be stored there. He placed work items he used less often in an extra filing cabinet down the hall, earmarked for his “stuff.”
  • The next step was bringing the work papers and projects back into his space, clear and organized. Kent did a great job with this.
  • And last, we talked about creating intention for the areas of his life where he wanted to see change: support and movement in his career, financial abundance reflected in his career changes, free creative thinking, and more family time. We suggested he work these intentions one at a time, at least one month apart, to keep his energy focused and mitigate overwhelm from too many changes at once.

The final result? “I like going to work more” says Kent. I am proud of my cube and definitely feel more grounded and focused.”
