As Kathy’s son moved out of the house for college, she began to think about what she wanted and needed from her home to support her life and goals. Her main objectives were a peaceful place to share with friends, family and a significant other, a nurturing kitchen for good health, and a home office to provide organizational and financial stability.

Kathy’s living room was the main focus of her home, sharing the Career, Knowledge/ Self-Esteem and Center guas. Entering it from the front door, the feeling of this room needed to be more open and available, as well as warm and grounded. Although green was a fine color for this area, the original green was a bit too bright, so we repainted with a richer, warmer tone. Next we removed or replaced the large furniture items to reconfigure the space. This helped draw energy in and give it focus, creating a nice place to relax and relate. The personal photos were traded for larger pieces of artwork that anyone could enjoy.

Kathy was an avid cook with a small galley kitchen. Replacing the bulky square table with a slighter round one made the eating area less crowded. One cool light blue paint color from floor to ceiling was used instead of the previous two-toned approach, unifying the space. Then the touches of rich turquoise knobs, metal and folk art on the walls, and an Ecuadorian rug at the sink gave the eye it’s focal point to brighten yet establish this Helpful People gua.

Kathy was willing to uproot her regular routine, so we moved her bedroom to the Relationship gua where her son used to be, and her office to the Wealth gua where her bedroom used to be. Hanging personal yet inviting artwork, using warm woods, textiles, and comforting pink and purple paint tones, respectively, we set Kathy’s intentions for intimacy and financial stability in motion.

The bathroom was located in the Fame/Rank gua of Kathy’s home. The light through her stained glass window gave this small space a glow in the middle of the day, but the white walls, floors and shower curtain worked against the warm energy. We painted the walls a cozy violet and found a shower curtain and floor rug to match. Green towels were brought in to play off the green of the stained glass and the paint in the hall and living room. The vanity was painted white to freshen up to cabinet and match with the other fixtures.
